• Elma Senior Center hosts pinochle every Friday at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.

• The Grays Harbor ACLU meets the third Wednesday of every month for a potluck at 6 p.m. at Events on Emerson (212 4th St. in Hoquiam).

Meetings

• Grays Harbor Hospital District #1 will hold a regular meeting at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma at 6 p.m. in the Kelsey Conference Room.

At the libraries

• The Elma Timberland Library and the Oakville Timberland Library will both be closed for training. Elma will resume its regular schedule on May 26, and Oakville on May 27.

Events

• Dukes of Swing will hold their monthly dance 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Aberdeen Elks Lodge (1712 S. Boone in Aberdeen). Dance is free and everyone is welcome.

At the libraries

• The Montesano Timberland Library will be closed for staff training. The library will resume its regular schedule April 27.

Saturday, May 27

Events

• WSU Master Gardener Plant Clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Juel’s Unique Nursery.

Meetings

• The Montesano class of 1957 will hold its 60 year reunion at noon at Gepettos in Montesano.

Monday, May 29

Events

• VFW Memorial Service and monument dedication for Johnny Chambers and David Ira Harner at Fleet Park, 11 a.m. After the service and dedication, gather at the corner of Pioneer and Academy to honor the memory of Timothy P. Davis by the honorary naming of Academy Street in his name. Hot dogs will be served at this location. It is requested that any additional contributions be made to the Montesano VFW to go to the Honor Squad Uniform Fund.

• VFW Post 1948 of Elma will hold a Memorial Day Service at the Odd Fellows cemetery starting at 11 a.m.

At the libraries

• All Timberland Regional Libraries will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. Libraries will resume regular hours May 30.

Wednesday, May 31

Events

• Hartman’s Jewelry and Repair in McCleary is closing, and will hold an event where former Mayor Wally Bentley will officially take down their sign. The event begins at noon.

• Harbor Home Health and Hospice will hold their monthly forum at 7:30 a.m. at Harbor Home Health and Hospice, 201 7th St. Come to the forum to connect with area business, community leaders and like-minded professionals.

• Brandon Klinger’s Edward Jones office will host the monthly Coffee Club at 11 a.m. at 211 South Main St., Suite 1A in Montesano.

Friday, June 2

Events

• Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society Fundraiser, will hold opening ceremonies at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma with a cruise-in to begin at 4 p.m. and the event itself to start at 6 p.m. This year’s walk will be six hours instead of the typical 24, and will have more of a “festival-feel” to it according to the organization’s Facebook page. Bark for Life will join the festivities, dog-friendly dogs are welcome for a fee of $10. Owners must register and sign a waver.

Saturday, June 3

Meetings

• A home buyer education class will be held 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the PUD building Hoquiam (220 Myrtle St.). The class is free. To reserve a seat, email a name and phone number to harleyg@prgraysharbor.com or call (360) 533-1900.

Sunday, June 4

Events

• Panhandle Lake 4-H Camp will host a kids fishing derby 8 a.m.-11 a.m. No license required. Prizes will be raffled. Bring a flotation device and fishing gear. Warm cinnamon rolls and coffee (donations accepted).

Monday, June 5

• Dr. Shawn Andrews of Elma Family Medicine and her team of volunteers will provide $20 sports physicals to students of all ages and from all school districts from 4-6 p.m in the Elma High School gym. Please make any checks payable to Summit Pacific Medical Foundation. All proceeds benefit the Mitch Cohen Memorial Scholarship Fund. Appointments are not necessary. At the libraries

• Hoquiam Timberland Library presents LEGO Club, 4:30-6 p.m. for children. Build, play, and have fun with the library’s collection of LEGO bricks.
