Raymond running back named offensive MVP, Titans linebacker wins top defensive award

Raymond’s Patrick Edwards and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s Max Smith were named league MVPs as the 2B Coastal league announced its all-league team last week.

Edwards, a lunch pail-style running back, rushed for 1,398 yards and 18 touchdowns this season despite missing two games due to a mid-season injury.

The senior tailback averaged a whopping 7.8 yards-per-carry this season and ran for 200 or more yards in a game four times this season, recording a season-best 242 yards in a win over Ocosta on Oct. 12.

Smith, a tough-as-nails linebacker, led PWV’s league-leading defense with 38 solo tackles and was second on the team with 71 tackles overall, a 6.5 tackles-per-game average.

The Titans’ defensive leader, Smith also caused three fumbles, recovered three fumbles and had an interception this season.

PWV head coach Josh Fluke was named Coach of the Year after leading the Titans to a league title and appearance in the 2B State Football Tournament this season.
