Bulldogs finish second, Eagles third

Seton Catholic wins

Seton Catholic topped Montesano and Elma in a three-way match Sept. 21 at Oaksridge Golf Course.

Led by Shawn Ball’s 36, the Cougars shot 170, one stroke better than the Bulldogs. Elma finished with 216 strokes.

Payson Parker led Montesano with 41. Kilian Acuff topped Elma with 48.

“We have six beginners on the team,” Elma coach Rich Walker observed. “I’m proud of them. They are working hard and are much improved.”

Josh Burgher and Ryan Cole again shot in the 30s as Hoquiam beat Montesano in a Southwest Washington 1A League match Sept. 20 at Highland Golf Course.

Burgher carded a one-over-par 36 to take medalist honors, while Cole added a 39.

Ben Wills topped Montesano with a 46.

“I was certainly pleased with the top half of our rotation,” Grizzly coach Larry Dublanko said. “I thought Josh played really well. I felt our guys stayed away from the really big numbers which is a good thing in these matches. “
