Bulldogs top Bobcats

Bobcats struggled to find rhythm

MONTESANO — Zoe Hutchings put down 10 kills and Hannah Hatcher added 46 assists as Montesano topped Aberdeen, 25-21, 25-15, 25-19, in a non-league match Thursday at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.

McKenna Miller added six kills as the Bulldogs (1-1) rebounded from a season-opening loss at Chehalis.

“We were passing much better tonight and we were moving together on the court,” Monte coach Renee Volz said.

Aberdeen (0-1) owned a 12-7 lead in the opening set before falling victim to serving difficulties. The Bobcats missed seven serves in the first set alone.

“We had a hard time getting into a rhythm because of all the mistakes,” Bobcat coach Doug Basler said.

Aberdeen’s Jalyn McDaniel, making her setting debut, served three aces and was also cited for floor leadership. Basler also commended the play of Anna Arquette, who had four kills, and libero Tamara Corona.

Montesano won the JV match in two sets, while Aberdeen’s C squad prevailed in two sets.

The Bulldogs host Castle Rock on Monday. On Tuesday, Aberdeen is home against Elma.
