13 Bulldogs, 4 Eagles wrestlers qualify for regionals

Three Monte grapplers earned district championships.

A total of 13 Montesano Bulldogs qualified for regionals with a top-three finish at the 1A District IV North Sub-Regional meet on Saturday in Centralia.

Three Monte grapplers earned district championships.

Andy Fry defeated Bulldogs teammate Jacob Salstrom via injury default in the 106-pound weight class, earning Fry a district title.

Monte’s Ty Ekerson won the 132-pound championship in similar fashion, via an injury default over teammate Lucas Salstrom.

Kai Olson earned a spot in the regionals and a 190-pound district title with a pinfall win over Elma’s Taitum Brumfield at the 5:29 mark of their title match.

Other Monte wrestlers earning a trip to the regionals are Cooper Johansson (113, 2nd), Cannon Foster (113, 3rd), Aaron Lano (120, 2nd), Konnor Odekirk (120, 3rd), Jordan King (145, 3rd), Isaac Pierce (152, 2nd), Brent Hollatz (160, 3rd), Auggie Arreguin (170, 3rd) and Kenny Koonrad (285, 3rd).

Monte finished second as a team with 358.5 points, less than 10 points shy of league champion Forks (366).

Elma placed third with 164 points followed by Hoquiam with 157.5 points in fourth place.

Elma had four wrestlers advance to regionals in Isaiah O’Farrill (152, 3rd), Brumfield, Jacob Garcia (220, 3rd) and Alejandro Hernandez (285, 2nd).

Two Grizzlies earned district championships as Hoquiam will send six athletes to the regional championships.

Antonio Garcia earned a 10-4 decision victory over Forks’ Keith Thompson for the 145-pound title.

Garcia’s teammate, Malachi Eaton, won 138-pound gold with a pinfall win over Forks’ Luis Perez at 3:53 of their title match.

Additional Hoquiam wrestlers earning a trip to regionals are Alex Houbregs (126, 3rd), Zach Barnes (132, 3rd), Cosmo Palmgren (145, 3rd) and Brady Cummings (160, 2nd).
