Janice “Bonnie” Riggs of Tenino, Wash., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2016

Janice “Bonnie” Riggs of Tenino, Wash., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at her home in Tenino. She was born to Roy R. Ritter and Ethel “Hattie” (McConnell) Ritter on Sept. 3, 193,7 in Frost Prairie, Wash. (now called Tenino). She was an avid geneologist of the pioneer Sydney Ford.

Bonnie was raised in Aberdeen, Wash., and later moved to Olympia, Wash., and started her family. She moved to Montesano in 1967 where she completed her family. She was a classic homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, canning and baking and was always there for her family and friends. She made Wedding Cakes for many of her nieces and nephews. She especially enjoyed going fishing.

She started working outside her home for the United States Postal System as a Substitute Rural Route Carrier in Montesano and later worked full time in Elma in the same position. She loved her job, the people she worked with and the people on her routes. She loved a challenge and volunteered for many things. She was called “Mom” by many of her children’s friends and later she graduated up to “Granny”.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Riggs; her parents; eight brothers: Merlin and Bernard Wagner, and Leroy, Roland, Leon, Ronald, Donald and James Ritter and her daughter Fawn Barber.

She is survived by her five remaining children Lanny Marsh of Tenino, Lanette (Les) Salzer of Montesano, David (Marie) Marsh of Oakville, Roland (Karen) Marsh of Montesano and Autumn (Ray) Harris of Tenino; her three remaining brothers, Gary Ritter of Arizona, Richard Ritter of Tacoma, Wash., David Ritter of Michigan; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Granny will be remembered and forever loved by all who knew her

A memorial service will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery, Tenino on Aug. 29 at 11 a.m., with a potluck to follow.
