Garry Duane Thayer passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his McCleary home. He was 75.

Garry Duane Thayer passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his McCleary home. He was 75. Garry was born on May 19, 1941, to Roy and Emily (Kramer) Thayer in Chicago, Ill. The family then relocated to Gardina, Calif. where he graduated high school. Garry went on to live in Alaska for a while before settling in the Grays Harbor area in 1979.

During his life travels Garry met Joy (Allen) Thayer. They wed on Sept. 19, 1980, in Mexico. To celebrate 19 years of marriage, Garry and Joy recited new vows on April 4, 2000, in Hoquiam, Wash. Together they celebrated 36 years of marriage.

Garry was employed for 30 years within the aircraft industry. He then became a business owner and held a successful laundry service for 15 years. In his down time Garry enjoyed sailing, fishing, golfing, hiking, cooking and camping. He was also an active member in the Hoquiam FOE, Hoquiam Elks, Hoquiam Gun Club and Gig Harbor Gun Club.

Garry is survived by his wife Joy Thayer of McCleary, Wash.; son Eric (Judy) Matteson of Aberdeen, Wash.; brother LeRoy (Carolyn) Thayer of Georgia; and sister Juddy Thayer of California. Along with three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Emily Thayer.
