Students receive scholarships from Summit Pacific workforce

Elma and Monte students lauded

Six students from Elma and Montesano high schools received scholarships from Summit Pacific’s Employee Scholarship Fund.

Each student will receive $1,000 to help begin a career in health care.

Elma High School recipients

Adriana Rojas Vargas plans to attend South Puget Sound Community College with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.

Kassedy Olson plans to study dental hygiene at Eastern Washington University.

Angelica Clark will start pursuing a nurse practitioner career by attending classes at Grays Harbor College.

Brooke Sutherby will attend Spokane Community College with the goal of becoming an ultrasound technician.

Montesano High School recipients

Matthew Johnson will pursue a paramedic career by studying at Grays Harbor College then Central Washington University.

Danika Peterson plans to study nursing at Saint Martin’s University.

The Summit Pacific Medical Foundation’s scholarship program is funded by donations from Summit Pacific Medical Center employees. The fund was established in 1993. Since then, it has awarded almost $70,000 to 87 East County students.

“This year we had enough to give scholarships to every applicant,” scholarship committee chairwoman Joy Iverson said. She is SPMC’s diagnostic imaging manager.
