Stolen check used to steal vehicle, police say

Elma police say a man and a woman with checks stolen from a 92-year-old Bremerton woman stole an $18,000 vehicle from Elma Value Ford.

Elma police have arrested a Tacoma man and are seeking a woman with ties to Grays Harbor County after a vehicle was stolen from Elma Value Ford.

A 92-year-old woman from Bremerton contacted the Elma Police Department on Aug. 2 claiming to be the victim of identity theft. She said somebody used stolen checks and fake IDs to buy an $18,000 vehicle.

The Elma Police enlisted help from the dealership to contact the suspected thieves. They were told they needed to return to Elma to pick up the title and plates for the vehicle.

On Aug. 6, a 36-year-old man from Tacoma “arrived at the location in the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody after a brief struggle,” a news release from the Elma Police states. A second suspect, a 41-year-old woman is being sought by police.

The man was booked into Grays Harbor County Jail on charges of first-degree theft, first-degree identity theft and multiple drug charges.
