Mounted Posse rodeo returns

Spring won’t be the only thing in the air at the Grays Harbor County Mounted Posse Indoor Pro Rodeo this weekend in Elma.

Mount up, Grays Harbor.

The Grays Harbor Mounted Posse Indoor Pro Rodeo returns this weekend to the fairgrounds in Elma.

The volunteer organization will open the doors at the Grays Harbor Fair County and Event Center at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The rodeos begin at 7 both nights. On Sunday, the Kids Day fun begins when the doors open at 10 a.m. and the rodeo starts at 2 p.m.

“This is definitely one of the highlights of spring in Grays Harbor County,” Kelly Peterson-Lalka of Grays Harbor Tourism said in a news release. “We love seeing old and new friends there, and cheering on our favorite bull riders.”

Other rodeo events include barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, calf roping and bareback riding. There’s also the team wild cow milking.

Kids Day will offer more fun plus the annual stick horse race, where every registered kid will go home with an old-fashioned stick horse.

Saturday night features a dance with local band Cory Daniels and Humptulips as well as a beer garden and food options.

“The Mounted Posse Indoor Pro Rodeo provides several critical benefits to Grays Harbor County,” the release states. “The Indoor Pro Rodeo is a 100 percent volunteer group, and this event supports student scholarships, local food banks, and other events and charitable activities conducted by the Grays Harbor Mounted Posse throughout the year.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for kids ages 6-12. Kids 5 years old and younger get in for free. Family packages good for both Friday and Saturday night are $25 each.
