Monte wins battle with PWV

Menlo — Peyton Poler had four hits, a triple and drove in three runs to lead the Bulldogs to an 11-7 victory over Pe Ell-Willapa Valley on Monday.

In a battle between two high-powered teams, Monte took the holeshot. The Bulldogs sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Montesano (14-2) scored a run in four-straight at-bats: Lindsay Pace’s run-scoring single, a two-run double off the bat of Samantha Stanfield, a Poler RBI single and a Katie Granstrom groundout.

Monte added two runs in both the second and third innings to go up 9-0 heading to the bottom half of the third, but the Titans (16-3) got back in the game with four runs in the in the frame, capped by Britany Patrick’s two-run home run to cut into the Bulldogs’ lead at 9-4.

But Montesano added to its lead on back-to-back run-scoring singles from Poler and Stanfield in the fifth inning to make it an 11-4 ballgame.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Titans catcher Grace Hodel doubled to centerfield with the sack full, clearing the bases and giving PWV a glimmer of hope at 11-7.

But Pace and the Monte defense shut the door on any comback hopes as the junior pitcher got Morgan Coady to groundout on a comebacker, ending the game.

REDMOND – The Montesano softball team gave up at least a run in every inning in a rare 11-1 loss to Redmond on Friday.

The loss is only second of the season for a Bulldogs team that entered the contest 14-1 overall and on an eight-game winning streak. The typically dangerous Bulldogs offense only managed four hits against Redmond pitcher Kiki Milloy, who allowed just one earned run in the game and struck out five Monte batters.

Bulldogs pitcher Samantha Stanfield had a rough outting, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits.
