July 1 McCleary man’s death blamed on meth

Coroner determines cause of death

The Grays Harbor County Coroner has identified the cause of death of the McCleary man who died shortly after knocking on the door of the McCleary Police Department to ask for help on July 1 because he took too much methamphetamine.

Donald Greene was 57, and his cause of death is “acute methamphetamine intoxication,” according to county Coroner Lane Youmans. The manner of death is listed as an accident.

After waiting for help to arrive on July 1, Greene voluntarily got into the aid vehicle. He became violent and began punching those assisting him.

After striking an officer, Greene ran into traffic on Highway 108. The officer called for backup and attempted to get Greene out of the highway. The officer attempted to use his stun gun to end the attack.

During the attempt Greene had what looked like a medical event after which he collapsed. Paramedics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead.
