DNR offers cost sharing for forest management plans

State DNR wants to help landowners get a forest management plan

The state Department of Natural resources wants to help Chehalis River basin landowners develop a forest management plan. The DNR’s Small Forest Landowner Office will compensate landowners for up to 50 percent of the cost to have a plan developed by a private sector consulting forester.

Washington landowners with 40 to 5,000 forested acres, most of which fall in the Chehalis River watershed, can apply for the money.

Plan contents must meet the Washington State Integrated Forest Management Plan Guidelines and be approved by DNR. And cost-share approval must be issued by DNR before the plan is written.

The Chehalis watershed covers 2,500 square miles, second in size in Washington to the Columbia watershed, and extends from the coast to about 20 miles east of Centralia and from near the Jefferson-Grays Harbor county line to about 10 miles south of Pe Ell.
