Tour newly constructed Monte home, July 15

Home was constructed using unconventional techniques. Fundraiser for FOSLS.

Last year the construction of Carol and Terry Boyer’s new home in Montesano drew attention from community members, and now the community will have the opportunity to see for themselves what went into making the home unique.

The Boyers will open up their doors July 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to those who are interested in learning a little more about what makes the house unique, and the interesting techniques used in its construction.

“Where we live is a very busy street, and a lot of people have watched the (building) process,” Carol said.

The house was built by Lillegard Construction of Montesano using Insulated Concrete Foam Construction (IFC).

Insulated concrete foam works to soundproof and keep the house quiet in addition to maintaining desired temperatures throughout the house. Carol said the material is also earthquake-proof.

“There’s all kinds of good reasons to go this way,” she said.

The tour is sponsored by the Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia (FOSLS). Admission is by donation and the proceeds will benefit the Legacy Project at Lake Sylvia State park. The project aims to build a multi-seasonal pavilion along the lake at Lake Sylvia State Park in Montesano.

Shirley McQuaid of FOSLS says the tour could still use two more volunteers to man the event and help with security. Whether coming out to volunteer or just to view the house, McQuaid encourages the community to view a unique home while supporting a good cause.

“They’ll find this a very interesting way to build a house. It’s soundproof and is just a unique way to go about building a house,” she said.

Visitors will be given shoe covers, and pets and picture taking will not be allowed. For more information, contact Shirley McQuaid, (360) 249-4848.
