Register for diabetes program by April 2

Yearlong course classes in Aberdeen and Elma

Washington State University Extension is offering the national Diabetes Prevention Program. It’s effective in helping people lose a modest amount of weight and increase physical activity needed to delay diabetes.

The class series will be held Tuesdays, starting April 10 in Aberdeen at Grays Harbor Community Hospital East Campus, or Wednesdays, starting April 11, in Elma at the WSU Extension office. Both classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Preregistration is required.

The deadline for registration is April 2, 2018.

The series is a $430 value but is available at no cost for those at risk for developing diabetes. To determine risk/eligibility, to enroll in the program, or for more information call Chris Koehler at (360) 482-2934 or email: koehler@wsu.edu.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a year-long program with 16-weekly sessions, followed by four bi-monthly, then seven monthly meetings to help maintain lifestyle changes.

The program covers a variety of topics including healthy eating habits, motivation techniques, how to include light physical activity and manage stress.

Participants receive a workbook and tracking tools to help manage progress. The group setting helps provide support and motivation from people facing similar lifestyle challenges.
