• Hoquiam Elks Lodge #1082 will host a New Year’s Eve Membership Drive from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The event is open to the public and will feature the band “Humtulips,” an appetizer buffet, champagne toast and more. Tickets are $25 per person or $40 for couples and may be reserved by calling 360-532-0590.

Monday, Jan. 1

At the libraries

• All Timberland Libraries will be closed for the New Year holiday. Libraries will resume regular hours on January 2.

Events

• The annual First Day Hike will take place at Lake Sylvia State Park. Ranger Miles Wenzel will lead a two-mile hike along the loop around Lake Sylvia. There also will be a shorter stroll led by a volunteer from Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Park. Meet at the kitchen area at 12:45 p.m. and dress appropriately. Hot drinks and cookies after the hike. The event takes place during a state park free day so a Discover Pass is not needed. • McCleary Timberland Library presents “Builders and Tinkerers,” 3-4 p.m., for grades 1-12. Take the library’s collection of technology tools and add lots of building bricks and craft materials.
