The city of Montesano will again embrace the coming of the holiday
season with the annual Festival of Lights, December 13-15, 2002.
"It's a total community involved event," said Carol
Smith of the Montesano Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the
event. "There are so few done at that time of the year."
The 16th annual Festival of Lights will again feature several
events of interest to both residents and visitors. Much of the
town residents decorate their homes and businesses with Christmas
lights, but the real fun starts Friday night with the lighting
of the Sharing Tree in Fleet Park.
The town will continue the celebration Saturday with a variety
of activities, culminating with the Grand Parade Saturday night.
Several different local groups and businesses decorate vehicles
for the nighttime event, and spectators are delighted by local
high school bands.
After the parade, many people go to Fleet Park for the lighting
of the Yule Log, caroling and bus tours of the decorated homes
in town.
"It doesn't matter if it's raining, snowing or a nice brisk
evening," Smith said.
