Lake
Sylvia State Park has a wealth of recreational opportunities
for everyone
From fishing to camping to hiking, Lake Sylvia
State Park has long been a popular recreation spot.
The 233-acre park, just north of Montesano, was donated to the
State Parks system by the City of Montesano in 1936. Surrounded
by forest area, the park also includes the 30-acre Lake Sylvia.
Dan Kincaid is Lake Sylvia Area Manager for Washington State
Parks, and also manages Schafer State Park, a 119-acre park about
12 miles north of Elma that is well-known for its fishing. Schafer
became a state park in 1924.
Monte's Festival of People set to continue in July
From dunk tanks to crafts, live music to casino
night, Montesano's Festival of People will have something for
everyone this year. After a seven-year hiatus, the Festival returns
for 3 days at the end of July, offering several activities and
events for all ages.
Festival of Lights returns to Montesano in December
The city of Montesano embraces the coming of
the holiday season with the annual Festival of Lights, in early
December.
Historic Montesano is the place to walk
The Friends of the Library want you to take a
hike. Since 1983, a rotating group of volunteers has delved into
the stories of the homes, businesses and sites of this historic
town. They produced about 40 historic plaques, which can be seen
around town, and half a dozen leaflets, booklets and brochures
for their Heritage Homes project, first started to commemorate
Montesano's centennial, 1883 to 1983.
