She has become qite an authority on the visit and has given several talks to commemorate the historic event. She’s due to give another presentation in Olympia this week.

A special spot across from the new Post Office was reserved for Montesano’s school children on the day Franklin D. Roosevelt came to town, 70 years ago, including these former kids, from left: Julia Ann (Bogdanovich) Manley, Caroline Forsman, Joreen Martin, Pat Clemons, Jennie Easter and Mary Beth (Loman) Dotson. More than 50,000 people disregarded predictions of a deluge and lined the streets to await his motorcade. Despite the nearly two inches of rain that had fallen in the previous 24 hours, the crowd was six deep in Aberdeen and Hoquiam the entire stretch of his route through those two towns.

2A Evergreen Conference
By Jerrad Kellogg
Vidette Reporter
ELMA – Elma had a tall order to fill to come away with a win on homecoming night 2007, with the state’s second ranked 2A team — Tumwater — rolling into town.
But the Eagles came out with intensity and administered about as many hard hits as they absorbed, in essence keeping the Thunderbirds from sustaining any long drives. However Tumwater’s oversized senior running back Hank Bryant did not require long drives to get the ball in the end zone.

The deceptively quick 6-foot-4, 215-pounder in his first year running the ball, lumbered for 173 yards on just six carries — with four of those touches going for touchdowns of more than 25 yards — as the Thunderbirds (4-0, 6-0) knocked off the Eagles (1-3, 2-4), 51-8, in a 2A Evergreen Conference football match-up on Friday, Oct. 5, at Davis Field. |

Bulldog football overcomes challenge from Tenino
Tenino came into the game with a time-tested game plan for underdogs - keep the ball out of the better teams's hands - and for the most part their strategy worked. However several big plays for Montesano scores did not necessitate much time of possession and the Bulldogs defended Rottle Field and picked up the, 25-13, 1A Evergreen football victory, Friday, Oct. 5.
