Aberdeen
Thursday, Dec. 31

• The Dance Club of Grays Harbor will host a formal dance to music by the Dukes of Swing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1712 S. Boone St. Snacks will be served throughout the evening with a champagne toast at midnight and a breakfast buffet at 12:15 a.m. Cost is $30 at the door.

• The Grays Harbor Mental Health Advisory Board will meet at 9 a.m. in the Pearsall Building small meeting room, 2109 Sumner Ave. Call Margi two days in advance at 532-8665, ext. 278, if special language, hearing or accessibility assistance will be needed. • The Aberdeen Timberland Library will host Rainy Day Reading Reviews, Volume 14 from January to February. Judy Pilder will review “A Gate at the Stairs” by Lorrie Moore at 10:30 a.m. in the Rosalie Spellman meeting room. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Aberdeen Timberland Library.
Thursday, Jan. 14
• “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” a luncheon and program for women of all ages, will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Rotary Log Pavilion. The program will feature John Larson of the Polson Museum, music by Roberta Cleland and Lois Peterson, and guest speaker, Cheryl Best of Vancouver, Wash., will speak on “Second Chances, Pressing the Reset Button.” Cost is $12 — all-inclusive; reservations and cancelations are necessary. • The Elks Lodge in Ocean Shores will host a New Year’s Eve party for its members and guests at 5:30 p.m. A variety of hors d’oeuvres will be offered. Music will be by the Mobile Dance Unit with DJ Chris. Champagne will be offered at midnight. Cost is $30 per person; purchase tickets at the office or in the lounge. Saturday, Jan. 9
• Westport Winery will host its second annual Harbor Bridal Show from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2-4 p.m. The show will feature Paula Rudberg-Lowe, editor of South Sound Event and Wedding Magazine, Suzie’s Cakes with samples and suggestions for wedding cakes, Journey Travel with suggestions for honeymoon destinations and more. • The Elma Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its third annual Grays Harbor Wine and Seafood Festival from noon to 9 p.m. in the Pavilion. The festival will feature wine tasting, wine sales, food booths, gift and merchandise booths and live entertainment throughout the day. There will be free admission and parking. Tuesday, Jan. 5

• Families Against Methamphetamines will sponsor a support group for families and friends of addicts from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Harbor Assembly of God, 716 M St., in the fellowship hall around the back of the church. Organizers say that participants will be able to share with others, become educated and receive encouragement. For more information, call Sue at 533-2619.

Montesano
Wednesday, Jan. 6

• The Chronic Illness and Pain Support group, known as ChIPS, will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. downstairs at the W.H. Abel Memorial Timberland Library. The group is open to all who experience chronic illness or pain and their families and friends. There will be opportunities to give and receive help, as well as open discussion and speakers. There is no cost. A disabled-accessible entrance and parking are in back of the library. • A free Child Find Developmental Screening will be offered by the Montesano School District to parents of children ages birth to 5 residing in the school district, and who have concerns about their child’s development. Organizers say the screening may help identify potential problems that may affect the child’s success in school. Appointments are required; call 249-2114 for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.
Friday, Jan. 15
• The Montesano Moose Lodge will host a teen dance for those in sixth to ninth grade from 8-11 p.m. The fundraiser will help Austin Kugan, a Montesano student to join the People to People World Leadership Forum this June in Washington, D.C. Music will be provided by a DJ, and pop, bottled water and chips will be available for $1 each.

• The Senior Citizen Lunch Program for Jan. 4-8 will feature:
Monday: Pepperoni pizza, green salad, fruit and brownies.
Tuesday: Chicken burgers, pasta salad, applesauce and oatmeal raisin cookies.
Wednesday: Broccoli and cheese soup, rolls, cottage cheese and fruit, and dessert.
Thursday: V.F.W. will provide lunch.
Friday: Cooks’ choice.

• Life Line Screening for strokes and osteoporosis will be offered at the Moose Lodge at 9 a.m. Organizers say that strokes are the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability; 80 percent of stroke victims had no apparent warning signs prior to their stroke preventative ultrasound screenings can help avoid a stroke and that the screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient.
