• Grays Harbor Bowmen will host “Bowhunter Warm-Up,” a 3-D archery event. The event is non-competitive, participants should bring bows and arrows, rangefinders or binoculars. Thirty-five 3-D targets will be shot each day, possibly twice on Saturday. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday. Participants can form their own group and shoot any time on Saturday, and must be off the range by 1 p.m. Sunday. Adult registration is $10 for one day or $15 for both days. Junior rates and family discounts are available.

• The Dance Club of Grays Harbor will host dancing to the music of the “Country 4,” from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Eagles Hall, 200 W. Market Street. Cost is $6 per person and includes refreshments.

• Rain Drum Studio will host “Kindermusik for the Young Child,” a free demo class, at 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s School open house. The school is located at 518 N. H Street. • Mike O’Connor will read from his book, “Unnecessary Talking: The Montesano Stories,” at 6 p.m. at Orca Books, 509 E. 4th Ave. in downtown Olympia. O’Connor’s book is a memoir and short story collection of growing up in Montesano in the 1950s. He has also published nine books of poetry and translations and is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in Literature. He is currently a publisher of Empty Bowl Press in Port Townsend.

• Everyone who joins the Arbor Day Foundation during August will receive 10 free white flowering dogwood trees. The trees will be shipped postpaid between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10, for planting. The 6-12 inch trees are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced free of charge. • Arts and crafts will take place in the covered picnic area of the McCleary park for children ages 5-8 from 1-2 p.m.; children 9-12 from 2-3 p.m. and teens from 3-4 p.m. All materials will be supplied, however it can be messy; students should come in clothes that can get paint on them. • The city’s water system will be flushed, weather permitting, throughout the month, to dislodge normal residue accumulations from inside the waterlines. The activity may cause some discoloration of the water, but will not present any health hazards. Five fire hydrants will be opened for short periods of time, residents should stay clear of the area and exercise added caution when driving by an open hydrant. Lower-than-normal water pressure may be experienced as the crew flushes the lines near your area. Once the system has been flushed in a residence’s immediate area, it is suggested that their own system be flushed by running water in the bathtub or outdoor spigot until the water runs clear.
